Rain Rainwater
Me for a Moment
Describe yourself in one word.
Goofy!
What’s the first thing you do every morning?
I wake up everyday at 8:30am because the sun shines through this window and hits me perfectly in the face… It does not matter when I went to bed. I have to force myself to go back to sleep to get enough rest.
When I get out of bed I put a coat on and go get coffee… My dad got me hooked on Starbucks at the age of 14. I’ve been hooked on non-homemade coffee ever since.
What’s your relationship like with your family?
I’m an only child and somehow the dog is the only child…
Describe the kind of people you like to spend time with.
We have to be able to laugh together. I never take anything too seriously, because it’s not that deep. If we can’t laugh together, why are you here?
What does home mean to you?
Home is where I feel the most comfortable, in my body and in a space. A place where I can laugh. A place where I can cry -
In my life, I think four people have seen me cry.
Do you feel at home here?
I feel like walking through this space is just like a warm hug. And it took time for it to be like that.
I tend to feel like a guest everywhere I go, even in spaces I’ve curated myself. This place is an exception, but I’m always working on it.
What motivates you to keep going?
The desire to experience joy within myself motivates me to continue to grow.
Do you see yourself growing into any specific new shoes as time goes on?
I try not to make plans about longevity, solely because you never know what’s around the corner - which I find really exciting. It can also be really scary.
I think there’s something really beautiful about learning. Knowledge is power and I don’t want to gatekeep knowledge from myself, which is why I focus so much on school. I want to devote myself to learning. The more you learn, the less you know. I want to learn everything, and I’m never going to, but I want to pursue that anyway.
If someone wanted to understand you better, what books should they read?
Carmen Maria Manchado - In The Dream House
Jeanette Winterson - Fran Kiss Stein
Octavia E. Butler - Seed To Harvest
Oh and two more!
Julie Otsuka - When the Emperor was Divine
Adrienne Maree Brown - Emergent Strategy
What’s a random fact about you?
I love mushrooms!
But I’ve never taken any!
What’s one thing you are really proud of, but not many people know about?
My journal.
I keep it on my computer and it’s a huge creative outlet for me. I start a new journal every semester and every section is a new thought. If I create something that I enjoy, or find something that needs a response, I’ll create [photoshop] a picture in response to it… I almost went to school for photography.
How would you describe yourself for people who don’t know you yet?
I read, I write, I write plays, and I act on stage… Basically I’m just trying to have fun, because that’s what makes life worth living.
