A Note On The Written Word

To write an essay is to try.

To try… to what?

To find the honesty within myself.

To struggle to find the words and stay open to discovering the nuance of this human experience.

I feel on the page and I share these capsules of my life in the hopes that you might feel too.

People like to ask me, “What are you?”

To that I respond, “I am a human.”

I think what they are trying to ask is something more along the lines of “How do you like to think of yourself in the context of what you do?”

And to that I’d respond, “I’m a writer.”

The word Photograph was coined in 1839 by early photographer Sir John Herschel. It comes from the Greek roots ‘phos’ or ‘phot’ and ‘graphe’, which literally translate to Light Writing.

Whether it’s words on the page, vibrations of strings, movement on stage, paint on a canvas, or light touched silver grains, fundamentally, I believe we are all writers. The medium we choose to express ourselves through is merely the tip of the iceberg. This is why I could never dedicate myself to a single medium. I recognize the fact I am constantly changing, and as such, so are the means with which I choose to express my transient identity.
